Se dizolva usor in apa, formand o solutie galben-verzuie - apa de clor, instabila la lumina. Produsul se utilizeaza:in industria chimica, in petrochimie in industria textila, la fabricarea celulozei si hartiei, in industria metalurgica, la clorinarea apei in vederea potabilizarii.
